Writing and Speaking are productive skills while Reading and Listening are receptive skills. We need to generate ideas and connect them to deliver a meaningful information. We all are creative and have wonderful ideas. The problem lies in correct use of language and speaking or writing in a logically organized manner.

Following are some basic tips to challenge the fear of the speaking and writing exam.

  1. 1. Read a lot: – Only a good reader speaks and writes well. This is because reading sub-consciously hones our language skills and we automatically learn to speak in the most apt manner. This is the reason that people advise us to read good books. Standardized reading develops standardized language. Good story books, newspaper articles, magazines etc. are strongly recommended.
  2. 2.Watch Videos and use Answer Templates but do not memorize responses: –We must know the difference between understanding and rote learning. The latter will never get you a good score. Answer templates can be a good idea to structure your responses but never cram answers. Instead, make notes of good ideas, words, linking devices.
  3. Practice on a variety of topics:– Cover all possible topics but from different fields like Science, History, Entertainment etc. This will prepare you for related topics in the same field.
  4. Revise Grammar , Punctuation, Pronunciation: Lofty ideas and scholastic usage of words are meaningless till grammar, spelling, punctuation, pronunciation are correct too. These are equally important indicators of good language.
  5. Finally,  be calm, confident and not artificial in choice of words, accent etc.

Getting goosebumps before an exam is natural but ensure the fear does not grip you. Challenge your fear to fuel you and boost your confidence.

All the Best!!!
